Neighborhood Crime Alert

The morning of June 1, a burglary occurred at a residence on Loy Rush Ct. while the owners were out. Forced entry was made to the front door between 8:20 and 10:45. Items taken included a 52" flatscreen TV, Wii playstation, video remote controls, video games and a set of keys. A video surveillance tape obtained from a neighbor showed a black 2-door Chevy Cavalier driving past the house at 9:52 with a male and female in the vehicle. At 10:09 the video showed the suspects leaving the scene with the TV in the trunk of the car.

Although our neighborhood is relatively safe, crime can occur anytime of the day or night and in a matter of minutes. Be alert to unusual activity on your street and in the neighborhood. If you observe something out of the ordinary don't hesitate to call the sheriff's office (837 7913 or for an emergency 911). It is wise to keep documented descriptions of your possessions (i.e., jewelry, household furnishings, electronic equipment) and if possible pictures and/or video of such items for identification purposes.

Two other situations have been reported that need to be addressed. The first being shooting of firearms, arrows or other projectiles. A ricochet can travel a great distance with capability of deadly results. The second situation is the operation of off-highway motorcycles and ATVs on streets or private property, vacant lots included. Noise and dust created by the vehicles are offensive to homeowners who live near these lots. The Village of Canal Winchester prohibits these activities and anyone observing such should report it to the sheriff's office.
